Poetry and the Conversation Group

I would like to try something new with the Conversation Group. I would like anyone coming to the Group on Wednesday, May 14th to bring a poem written in their native language. I would like to hear the poem read in the original language and then an English translation of the poem (also to be read).

It doesn't matter if you do the translating, or if a book has versions in both languages. It can be a poem you have written yourself. I would also like the whole group to discuss a poem after it has been read.

If this works well, I would also like to do the same thing on May 28th to give other people a chance to share something. What do you think? Can you think of poems to bring? Does this sound interesting or just boring? Feel free to be honest.

I will volunteer to start things off by reading something when we attempt this.

I'm not sure what to say...it is a good idea but I think it will be little boring. Because I think it will be hard to understand, even it is translated in English diffrent culture, diffrent thinking, and maybe it will be hard to listen all the students poetry. Also, it is hard to translate.

I love poems. Poems are very beautiful. It can let me to feel many kinds of sentimental chords. Pomes are usully can articulate chords that simple senetance can't articulate. We have 5000 years history. There are many poems in my county.I will try to translate the meanings that I am chosen poem.

I also think "Poem" is included beutiful meanings and sounds. But actually, when I hear a poem in own language, I can understand it what intend to, and image that suroundings what the artist want to say. Sometimes, when you read old poems, pornounce and phrase are different from now. I think if you try to translate into other language, it might be difficult to understand real meanings.
